I was with my oldest brother, his wife, and their two daughters. The girls were very young again, around 4 and 2 years old. The older daughter Carson and I are in a candy store. The colors are really bright and every candy in the world is there, floor to ceiling. Carson and I pick out lots of different chocolates to take back for a taste test. Carson is getting tired so I have her sit in a little chair in a kids play area while I go to get something like a plain bread or cracker for the taste test. All I can find are cinnamon rolls or lemon bars or other strong flavored breads. I finally ask a woman who looks like a couple different older, overweight women I used to work with and she hands me an unsugared churro. I ask her how much for the churro she says, “People pay me whatever. I got a jar of peanut butter last time”. I tell her I have a couple dollars and will come back with it asap. She doesn’t care, “ No rush”. I want to pay her back right away so I take Carson, the chocolates, and the “bread” back to the place we are all staying (it’s not their real house, but they seem to be living there). I get my 2 dollars and run back to this mega candy mall to pay the woman. On the way I run into local politicians and people who hold offices in town and they all know me. I’m polite but they all seem ingenious and act like they want something. I pay the woman and make my way back to the place we’re staying. I have to go up a cement stair case like to a government building to get to my brother. The family is setting up to have the four horses do the chocolate test. I’m confused. My brother never owned horses, nor my sister in law. Why are the horses doing the testing? Why did I need bread? It’s not like we’re tasting cheese or something. We’re up a few stories and when I look off this big balcony, I see what looks like the main quad from college. My oldest brother and sister in law also attended the same university years before me. There are people who recognize me and yell, “Hey! Where ya been? We haven’t seen you in a long time!” I yell back, “I don’t get out much”. My sister in law comments,” No one calls you by your first name around here. They’re always yelling (last name). Even all those politicians say that.” I shrug. The taste test is set. I’m assigned to handle a horse call Valentine. She’s a hot pink color and very sweet. My sister in law says they’re thinking about selling her because of the weird motions she makes. I put my arms around her neck and feel the motions. She’s trying to dance with me! My brother is surprised and is starting to think they will keep her. He has me take her for a walk while they do the first chocolate taste test. We walk back through this building. Wooden floors. Craft shops. People just ignoring that I’m walking a bright pink horse around. There’s these three college boys walking around. Valentine throws herself at them and lays on the ground. I’m thinking “Oh crap. I gotta get her back now.” I ask the guys to do me a favor and tell Valentine that’s she’s the prettiest girl and how much they like her and would be willing to dance with her and maybe take her to one of the college dances. She flutters her eye lashes at them, gets up, smiles, shakes her mane, and does the whole teen girl flirt thing. I roll my eyes and thank them. I get her back and we go to the testing. The whole family is there and the chocolate is set up in little fluted paper cups like cupcake cups. I’m still wondering why I needed the bread. Valentine bends down and eats all the cups at once. I tell my brother that’s no way to run a taste test. How can she pick out one over the other if she puts them in her mouth all at once. He reassures me it will be okay and they will probably keep Valentine anyway. There is an announcement that there’s a problem with one of the horses. I look down to where the quad was and now’s it’s a huge dirt arena like in rodeos. A guy who’s been assigned to that horse comes to the center of the arena. There is bright blue horse with small Asian elephant ears instead of horse ears. I think he is the color of Krishna. When I look back at my brother, Valentine is gone and now a bright yellow horse is there. It has a mane around its head that looks like a lion and dark curly hair hanging out of the mane over its eyes. It looks really friendly and my brother says this is the other horse they will end up keeping. I have lots of questions. What is your the color of the fourth horse? Was the blue horse the first to do the tasting? What problem is there with the blue horse? Or is the problem with the fourth horse? Why are we feeding horses chocolate anyway? What’s with all the bright colors? Is this like some My Little Pony thing? I wasn’t around anyone who played with those? Last thing I remember is lucidly wondering if my brother is okay.
Dreams often reflect our subconscious thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Your dream presents a rich tapestry of symbols and narratives that can be analyzed in various ways. In order to gain insight, let's break down some key elements of your dream.
Family and Connection: You begin your dream with your brother’s family, suggesting themes of familial bonds and support. The presence of young children indicates a nurturing aspect of your life or a desire to connect with innocence and joy.
Candy Store: A candy store represents indulgence, joy, and the pleasures of life. The bright colors and plentiful choices may symbolize abundance in your life; however, it also signals potential overwhelm with choices or desires. The act of selecting chocolates for a taste test can indicate a desire for exploration and new experiences.
Childlike Innocence: The young ages of your nieces evoke nostalgia and a sense of longing for the simplicity of youth. Your task of caring for Carson while in this playful environment portrays a protective side of you.
Lost or Confused Elements: The pursuit of something simple like bread or crackers amidst complex options may reflect a struggle in your life to find straightforward solutions. The ‘unsugared churro’ and the statement that “people pay me whatever” hint at a negotiation with value and reciprocity in your relationships.
Encountering Politicians: Running into local politicians who recognize you suggests that you may feel like your actions or decisions are under scrutiny. Their seemingly insincere demeanor could indicate a feeling of obligation or pressure in the social hierarchy around you.
The Horses: Horses in dreams often signify freedom, power, and emotional energy. Each horse’s color and traits denote different aspects of your personality or situation:
Taste Test and Absurdity: The chocolate testing with horses hints at unexpected scenarios in life that may lack resolution or logic. The confusion over needing bread to accompany chocolate reflects conflicting desires or the need to balance indulgence with practicality.
Nostalgia for College Days: The university connection may signify nostalgia and the desire for social connections from your past, potentially reflecting on how those connections are evolving as you age.
Your dream illustrates a blend of childhood reminiscence, ongoing family ties, and the complexities of adult life. You may be seeking a return to simpler times or a resolution to present complexities. The vibrant, fantastical elements suggest that you have a strong creative spirit and an innate curiosity about life, while the underlying currents of pressure and scrutiny highlight a tension between societal expectations and personal desires.
You might be wrestling with questions about your own identity, responsibilities, and the relationships you maintain. Moreover, the departure of the horses symbolizes change, and your connection with them illustrates the journey of self-discovery and adaptation.
Ultimately, this dream urges you to reconcile your playful spirit with the responsibilities and choices in your waking life, allowing you to explore new avenues with the support of loved ones while embracing your individuality. As with any dream interpretation, reflect on how these themes resonate with your current life circumstances to extract the most personal meaning from your experiences.
